Hi! I’m Matthew Gonsalves, the one-person force behind Studio Areyo. I’m a designer and creative director with over 15 years of experience, including more than a decade working professionally. I’m originally from Queens, New York, and moved to London in 2014 to study at London College of Fashion, where I’ve since made my permanent home.
After completing my Master’s in 2019, I spent over five years as an Art Director at The Phluid Project. There, I led graphic and art direction across digital platforms, retail environments, product lines, and anything else that touched the visual identity. I designed and guided collections and collaborations for major retailers and cultural institutions, including the NBA and NYC Pride.
Alongside my role at Phluid, I continued to work freelance, developing brand strategy and cohesive visual frameworks. This includes everything from logos and typography to color systems, packaging, and guidelines that help clients apply their branding consistently as they grow. What I’m most proud of is my ability to take any idea, whether it’s a business concept, a product, or a single graphic, and add depth and dimension to it. I focus on uncovering opportunities that maximise both profit and social impact, helping clients move beyond the initial spark and turn it into something meaningful, sustainable, and scalable. When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me playing or watching tennis, running, or unwinding on RuneScape.
